Stephen 'Nipper' Varney 1967-2025

We share the sad news that we sadly lost Stephen in September '25.. It has been a huge shock to his family and friends. 

Nipper created the SW300 and Border Raid routes to showcase the best of what South West Scotland has to offer. His passion for cycling first had him cycle from London to Durham at the age of 14 to creating a 24 hour charity cycle ride in 2018. A legend with a big personality he will be sadly missed. 

We hope people will continue to cycle these routes for many years to come and think of Stephen aka Nipper
